How do I get my 16 month old to keep her shoes and socks on in the car?
Everytime I buckle her in her car seat and start to drive not even 5 minutes down the road she has her shoes and socks off and on the floorboard of the car. I know the shoes are her size…so it’s not the fact that they are too small and bothering her feet. I always put socks on her befor I put her shoes on and I don’t Know what to do to make her keep her shoes and socks on. She also does this in the buggy in the store and as soon as we get home. She does this with every type of shoe and sock because I have tried them all. Tennis Shoes…Soft baby booty shoes…and Crocs…What do I do. Please help me!
My son did this, too. We tried all types of shoes, but he still managed to get his shoes and socks off no matter where we were at. We just planned for extra time to put the shoes and socks back on when we got to our destination. As far as the shopping cart, I’d let him take them off, but then he couldn’t get out and walk with his sister. So, that was enough of an incentive to make him keep his shoes and socks on in the store. He’d take them off in his stroller, too. I wouldn’t fret too much about it, it’s just a phase. My son gradually outgrew the need to always take his shoes and socks off in the car plus he eventually learned to put them back on. It is frustrating, but it will pass and become the fodder for fun stories when your daughter is grown up. Our son is now 27 and we still get some good laughs out of his barefoot days.
